* Most of the top of the ballot stayed in tact, with Alabama dropping to No. 5. There really isn't any argument on the Tide's placement: Both Alabama and Oregon lost to LSU, but Alabama did so in overtime, even if it's at home.
* I have moved Houston up past Oklahoma at No. 8. The top eight teams are either undefeated or lost their only game to a team ranked in the top five. OU's home loss to Texas Tech looks especially bad now considering the Red Raiders have since lost their two subsequent games by a total of 66 points.
* I didn't really understand why K-State dropped so much in the other polls, particularly vis-a-vis South Carolina. K-State lost to a higher-ranked team in a closer game. The Wildcats stay ahead of the Gamecocks on my ballot.
* New team that made the ballot this week: TCU.
* Conference-by-conference tally: SEC (5), Big Ten (5), Big 12 (4), Pac-12 (3), ACC (3), C-USA (2), MWC (2), Big East (1).

Keep your eye out for a rebounding Ohio State -- The Ohio State University!
Okay. You REALLY want my opinion? Some won't be happy but who cares?
1) Too many teams in division one in the first place. They need to cut it down by at least 25-30 (or more) teams. Dissolve the Mid- American conference period for obvious reasons. There is not a single team out of 14 there that should be on the level of division one. Put every team there into division two. I'm sure they would be more happy to be winners in division two than losers in division one. The same with other divisions. Move Boise State to a noteworthy conference and say bye-bye to the rest. Boise State should not be ranked where they are because they have not played ANYBODY! You may argue that they beat Georgia. Big deal! We're not talking about the Georgia of several years ago that used to be a pretty decent team. We're talking about a Georgia that is... not so decent this year. Same with the Independent. Move Notre Dame and BYU somewhere else boot Army and Navy down a notch. Just do some housecleaning and rearranging. Whose toes are they afraid of stepping on anyway?
2) Good teams don't need those "kicking-dog" teams to start every season with. Bye-bye LA Monroe and LA Lafayette and take Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Troy and Western Kentucky with you. Let good teams play good teams all season. If they're that good then let them prove it!
Get rid of all those nobodies and there would be plenty of ways to develop a playoff. Maybe start the season a week early so as to start the post season early. Extend the post season an extra week. And/or trim the off-time in between by a week. It's ridiculous for some teams after the regular season to go three weeks to a month before playing their bowl games. So what. That's two extra weeks of football at the most. Besides, ask any real college football fan and I doubt if you will find a single one that would object to two extra weeks of football every year.
